National service scheme, popularly known as N.S.S is an extension of the higher education system to orient the students to community service while they are studying in educational institutions, under the aegis of Ministry of youth Affairs and Sports, Govt, of India .
The Motto of N.S.S “NOT ME BUT YOU”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. N.S.S helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of the N.S.S is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines the well-being of the society.
The college started national service scheme in 1987, the year of the inception of the college. N.S.S volunteers generally work with villages, slums and voluntary agencies. N.S.S volunteers are committed to develop a sense of belonging and respect for the people with whom they are working. Under this, they provide knowledge to villagers on many issues i.e. HIV / AIDS, sanitation, plantation, health and welfare services, consumer education, income generation, scale development and allied fields. The volunteers are trained by medical experts, how to provide first aid in emergencies. There are no predefined tasks it is the volunteers imagination to provide the service to society in whatever ways that is feasible. Volunteers are also involved in controlling traffic, regulating queues in temples, and pulse polio campaign. Doing so the volunteers themselves learn a lot from these activities and how to lead a happy life in the extreme scarcity of resources and so on
